Character Growth Platform
The Vision
Designed by the Character Lab, a Philadelphia-based leader in education research, the Character Growth Platform allows teachers and school administrators to track the growth of student strengths over time and send them notes of encouragement with small interactive messages called Kudos. In developing this platform, the Character Lab team sought to distill their vision - actionable advice for parents and teachers based on science, into a mobile and web platform to engage students in their character strengths.

The Outcome
Working closely with the Character Lab team, we designed, built, and deployed a fully-featured set of services to bring the Character Growth Platform to life. The platform consisted of iOS, Android, and Web user apps, as well as a scalable backend to handle messaging and user data. Central to the development process was the idea of creating a culture of positivity and strengths awareness by letting students track their own character strengths and send each other Kudos when they observed a positive behavior. We also allowed users to schedule automated reminders for themselves and for students to do regular check-ins for ongoing conversations about building strengths. After completing development, we assisted the Character Lab team in deploying and testing the platform in schools across the east coast.
